Note: The combo course runs for 14 weeks.  Jan 9, 16, 23, 30. Feb 6, 13, 20 (exam - part 1);  Feb 27, Mar 5, 12, 19, 26, Apr 2, 9 (exam - part 2)

This is a hybrid class - offered in a classroom environment and simulcast via ZOOM.  Students can attend "in-person" or participate online via ZOOM.

The Pleasure Craft Operator Card gets you out on the water. Basic Navigation & Boat Handling - Part 1 & 2 help bring you back safely!

It is recommended that students have obtained their Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC), but it is not mandatory.

The PCOC makes sure you have immediate navigation and safety skills but it’s just the beginning of what you should know when you get on a boat.

Basic Navigation & Boat Handling - Part 1: Global positioning and charts, the Magnetic Compass, Navigation, Conning, Electronic Navigation, Handling a boat under power, Ropes, lines and Knots, Anchors and Anchoring, Weather, Tides and Currents, and Collision Regulations/Rules of the Road.

Basic Navigation & Boat Handling - Part 2: Navigation, Introduction to Plotting, Plotting and Labeling, Working with Paper Charts, Environmental Responsibilities, Skipper’s responsibilities before setting out and when under way, Electrical hazards, handling a boat under sail, Tides and Currents, Collision Regulations / Rules of the Road.
