This course covers the different types of RADAR equipment, including their capabilities and limitations. You will learn the different features available and how they apply to your needs.
Although GPS does a better job of locating you relative to geographic features, RADAR reveals your position relative to other vessels, landmasses, buoys, etc.. that are in your immediate area. It can be used as an aid to navigation, especially in poor visability, it can "see" at night, it can display shorelines and other geographic features, it can detect storm clouds and prepcipitation.
Included with the course is a CD with a RADAR simulator program. The simulator allows the student to practice the different features of RADAR units.
